The extensive power outage that recently hit the country's Eastern upper corner prevented us from congratulating Sean Mann and the Greenbrier HS Club for their first ever ASA Open. The event took place on October 25th in the beautiful building located in Evans, GA and saw, exceptionally on a Tuesday afternoon, the ASA debut of ten young players.
To them, the American Subbuteo community wishes a successful continuation with their club's and regional activity.

And his former club claimed two more titles with Paul Eyes in the Veterans, and Stuart Russell in the U19 category. Check out results, videos and photos on the ASA forum.

Simon Hutchinson, Kevin Nieman, Wayne Smith, Dominic Hutchinson
It was a highly entertaining tournament, and all kinds of WASPA firsts were achieved, including:
- First goal in a WASPA tournament: Dominic Hutchinson.
- First win in a WASPA tournament: Simon Hutchinson.
- First person to score seven goals in a WASPA tournament: Kevin Nieman.
- First person to win a WASPA tournament: Wayne Smith.
Kevin summed up everyone's feelings when he said "I must say that this was one of the most enjoyable tournaments I've ever played. I wish for all WASPA participants to have all the fun and excitement we had. This is what makes Subbuteo fun!"
You can read all about this tournament on the WASPA 1 tournament page here»

I am writing to let you know that I will be stepping down as ASA President effective July 1 this year. At the present time I do not feel able to provide a service to ASA members. My involvement in the game has been in decline for a couple of years now. I was hoping that taking on the President position would reinvigorate my interest. Sadly this has not been the case.
I do want to say that this is a purely personal decision. No one has upset me, there have been no falling outs with anyone. I am fine and well. I just do not feel I am doing enough at present, and know that is not a benefit to the ASA. I am not comfortable with my own lack of effort and involvement. I need to take a break from the game.
The timing of stepping down is to hopefully give people time to discuss how to move forward. It is time for others to step up at this time. Rest assured I still hope to see you across the table at some time in the future, and I will be attending the National Championships this July.

Results from the second annual Subbuteo Across America are trickling in from clubs in the USA, Canada, and Switzerland.
This year's Subbuteo Across America was held on Saturday April 30 and Sunday May 1, 2011, to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Every club and player is recognized in the Roll of Honor, as way of saying thank you to the people who wanted to make a difference and help find treatments for this terrible disease.
While it is not yet possible to give a total of how much has been raised, I am encouraged by everyone's generosity and we should raise more money than we did at last year's event.
Clubs who have taken part are:
- Sons of Ben
- Southern California Subbuteo Club
- Subbuteo Club Anfield Hoppers Zurich (Switzerland)
- Towson Subbuteo Club
- West Coast Table Soccer Club (Canada)
More information on this year's event, including the full Roll of Honor and photographs, can be found here»
A big Thank You to everyone involved for your generosity.

The Southern California Subbuteo Club's Season 11 finished on Friday April 8, 2011.
Wayne Smith's team, Hannover 96, had won the League championship two weeks before, on match day 6. But the winners of the Runners Up cup and the Wooden Spoon was only decided on the last day.
The loser of the game between Kevin Nieman's Perdenti Glorioso and Dominic Hutchinson's Kumba would win the Wooden Spoon, and the winner of the game between Jason Mitchell's Hollywood Hammers and Simon Hutchinson's Simi City would win the Runners Up cup. Both games were decided by single goals, and Perdenti Glorioso and Simi City were victorious.
Jason Mitchell was voted "Player of the Season" to recognize his performance this season. He was just a goal away from finishing in second place this season, a big improvement on finishing second from bottom last season.
Congratulations to all the winners:
- League champions: Hannover 96, Wayne Smith on right.
- Runners Up cup: Simi City, Simon Hutchinson second on right.
- Wooden Spoon winner: Kumba, Dominic Hutchinson, on left.
- Player of the Season: Jason Mitchell, second on left.
All the reports, photographs, scores and tables can be found on the Season 11 page.

The turn out was small enough that the tournament was played in a "round robin" format, where everyone plays each other once.
Wayne Smith won the tournament, and all of his games. His record of consecutive ASA Open wins is impressive, with his winning streak goes back to 2005.
In the last round of games Kevin Nieman won his only game to snatch second place from the fancied Simon Hutchinson. Simon finished in third place with the same number of points as his son, Dominic. David Jensen was the only player not to win a game, and he finished in last place. The final table, results, photographs, and reports from all of the games can be found here»

VfL Osnaflick won the league championship, winning all but one of their games. Perdenti Glorioso, surprised everyone with their strong play, finished in second. West Germany 1990 missed their chance to share second place by losing their last game of the season, finished in third. Simi City won their last three games to share third with the Germans. Red Star finished in fourth, Hollywood Hammers in fifth, and Kumba finished last.
The League Cup final had the league champions, Osnaflick, facing the Hammers. The Hammers had caused two "cupsets" earlier beating Simi City in the first round, and Red Star in the semi final. The result of the final did not accurately show how close the final was.
- Dominic Hutchinson (left) as Kumba: Wooden Spoon.
- Kevin Nieman (center) as Perdenti Glorioso: Runners up cup and "Player of the Season".
- Wayne Smith (right) as VfL Osnaflick: League champions and League Cup winners.

The second Subbuteo Across America will be held on Saturday April 30 and Sunday May 1, 2011.
This year's event will raise money for the American Cancer Society.
We would like to invite all the Subbuteo players and clubs in North America (Canada, Mexico, USA) to take part in this worthwhile event.
Last year 54 players took part, playing 93 games, and raised $204.91. Let's see if we can beat those numbers this year.
All participating players will be included in the Subbuteo Across America Roll of Honor.
Note: Twin clubs of the Southern California Subbuteo Club may also take part.

Hi, I’m Tim Tuminaro and I started painting Subbuteo teams after arriving home from a trip to the 1982 Subbuteo World Cup in Barcelona, Spain where I and Jon Schultz formed Team USA. Many countries had teams painted in their colors and many carried along club teams for the many practice games that were held. I got a crash course in using polish and saw some awesome teams hand painted. I loved them. I have been playing this game since 1981 when I bought my first game set and have painted many teams since then. The number one rule however is do not be afraid to attempt it. With practice you learn a few tricks to making it easier and the challenge to improve with each new team seems to come along with the “job”.
Today with the computer and an assortment of unpainted figures available you can create your own personalized team. Testors makes a waterslide decal sheet which is very easy to use, when you follow directions. I use them and another available through an art store but those cost more . After practice and ending with happy results you can always move to upgrade your tools and materials. I have an inkjet printer but a laser printer makes more tiny details very simple. Currently, I use the most basic Windows Paint program (this allows cutting and pasting and image reducing very easily)for most of my work, along with window’s Word processor for names and numbers. Reducing it to very smallest output size like 25% before printing. However the Professionals use the Corel Draw and other graphic Art programs with much better decals being produced. But Your Artistic impression goes much further in the end than a computer program. Most figures are seen from three feet away and rarely closer while actually playing.

With less than half an hour left in 2010 Southern California Subbuteo Club members Dominic and Simon Hutchinson decided to become the last people to play Subbuteo in 2010 and the first to play in 2011.
Their Indoor Edition game kicked off shortly before 11:50 PM, on December 31, 2010. The first and second quarters of the game were completed before midnight.
After a few moments to toast the New Year the game resumed, with the third and fourth quarters played on January 1, 2011.
Dominic also becomes the first player to win in 2011, as he defeated his father 4-2.
