'Tis the season... the season for ASA Presidential Election.
The qualifications and duties for this office, per ASA Bylaws, are:
The ASA President needs to be at least 21 years of age and either 1) Served a full term (2 years) as a VP, or 2) Have 5 continuous current years of ASA activity. The President will serve a two-year term beginning on the first day of the season of the odd numbered year. The function of the ASA President is as follows:
The ASA President handles the organization of all changes to the Bylaws.
The ASA President, or a designated constituent, must regularly be in touch with the members-at-large to report on the business of the Board.
The ASA President, or a designated constituent, is the representative to handle all inquires from other National Associations or FISTF.
The ASA President shall confirm all other ASA Chairpersons as nominated by members-at-large, or the ASA VPs.
So that basically means that if a person has never been a VP, he/she needs to have been continuously active in the ASA since the 2004-05 season. I read the “continuously active” bit to mean that a person needs to have at least played in 1 official ASA tournament in each of the last 5 seasons (including the current one). If needed, Lenny has a copy of the 04-05 season’s rankings since he was statistician back then.
The election will take place throughout the month of May.
